Lisa
Markley’s musical talents are a mixture of folk and jazz. Her new solo
album, The Sky is Blue and Sometimes Cries, features some original
songs along with compositions by North Texas songwriters, whom Lisa
hopes to introduce to new audiences.
Lisa is a former member of the band Akoustik Nerve and still actively
tours with the eclectic folk trio, The Malvinas. She also performs
locally with her trio (American Songbook) and tours with guitarist
and songwriter, Bruce Balmer. A graduate of the University of North
Texas with a degree in Music Composition, Lisa has won and placed in
several songwriting compositions. She has also appeared in several
major festivals and venues throughout the US and Canada.
Lisa is talented beyond vocals and guitar, which are featured on her
most recent CD, she also plays the piano, trombone and banjo. She lists
Sarah Vaughan and Joni Mitchell as musical influences. Some of her
awards to date include regional singer/songwriter at the Kerrville
Folk Festival in 2001, 2004 and 2006, and Wildflower Festival Performing
Songwriter Semi-Finalist in 2003.
