curtis salgado
Curtis
Salgado has been part of the music community for a number of years,
but just recently he has started drawing nationwide attention. Curtis
began his career with Robert Cray's band and was part of their debut
album. He left to front the band Roomful Of Blues from 1984-1986. While
with Roomful of Blues, Curtis inspired John Belushi to create the Blues
Brothers when Belushi caught Curtis' act while filming Animal House
in Eugene, Oregon. Belushi dedicated the first Blues Brothers album
to Curtis.
Curtis started his solo recording career in 1991 with the release of "Curtis
Salgado and the Stilettos" and followed that up with "More
Than You Can Chew" in 1995. Curtis' big break came when he performed
with Steve Miller on Late Night with Conan O'Brien. His CD, "Soul
Activated", has received critical acclaim and even earned him
a WC Handy Blues Award nomination in the category of "Soul Blues
Album of the Year."
The most recent CD from Curtis, "Strong Suspicion", features
a number of songs that showcase his ability to put an original spin
on someone else's song. He gives the Beatles song "I'll Be Back" a
full-on Memphis Soul treatment, which is one of the highlights on the
CD. The Los Angeles Times said Curtis "is keeping the classic
flame of soul music alive."
