At 63 and 64, my wife and I are retired but do not yet qualify for Medicare. We have applied to three different companies, but were turned down by all of them for a variety of reasons. The real reason, however, is that due to our age, insurance companies do not statistically recoup their losses before we go on Medicare. Fortunately, we are in relatively good health, but we must forego mammograms, psa tests, and the recommended colonoscopies for people our age because it is too expensive.
